5-ALA 8% Powder (5-Aminolevulinic Acid / Chlorophyll Precursor)
Plant Growth Regulator & Photosynthesis Booster for Fruit Coloration, Sugar Accumulation & Stress Tolerance
5-Aminolevulinic Acid (5-ALA) 8% Powder (CAS 5451-09-2, 5-ALA hydrochloride) is a natural plant growth regulator and photosynthesis-enhancing biostimulant for foliar spray, drip irrigation and root drench across flowering, fruit coloring and stress-recovery programs. As a biosynthetic precursor of chlorophyll, heme and cytochromes, it boosts photosynthetic efficiency, promotes uniform fruit coloration and sugar accumulation, and improves tolerance to drought, cold and salinity. For field use: apply 100–300 g of 5-ALA 8% powder per hectare as a foliar spray (working solution of 5–15 ppm active 5-ALA, i.e., 10–30 g of powder per 100 L water), applied every 7–10 days during flowering and fruit ripening; use 200–400 g/ha (10–20 ppm active) for fruit coloration at early expansion and veraison; or apply 300–600 g/ha through drip irrigation/root drench. Halve all rates for seedling stages to avoid phytotoxicity. Packed in 20 kg drums with custom OEM packaging. MOQ 40 kg; standard lead time approximately 10 working days to Shanghai port; batch COA with every shipment.

Key benefits
- Essential Chlorophyll Building Block: Provides active 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) as the direct biosynthetic precursor for chlorophyll and heme, optimizing photosynthetic light-harvesting under low-light or overcast conditions.
- Cold & Freezing Stress Protection: Upregulates antioxidant defense enzymes (SOD, POD, CAT) to reduce membrane lipid peroxidation, safeguarding crops against late spring frosts and severe cold waves.
- Fruit Coloration & Quality Upgrade: Enhances anthocyanin accumulation and sugar transport, promoting even fruit ripening, higher Brix levels, and better post-harvest shelf life in fruits and berries.
- Enhanced Nutrient & Water Absorption: Promotes root respiration and stomatal movement regulation, improving water retention and nutrient uptake under saline or drought conditions.
- Standardized 8% Soluble Formulation: Specially engineered 8% active powder for agricultural stability, easy measurement, excellent tank-mix compatibility, and rapid foliar absorption.
- Uniform Fruit Coloration & Faster Sugar Accumulation: Promotes anthocyanin and soluble sugar biosynthesis during the veraison-to-ripening window, delivering more uniform color development and higher °Brix at harvest, especially in grapes, citrus, apples, tomatoes, and strawberries.
- Low-Residue & Foliar-Safe at Recommended Rates: At 25–50 g/ha (8% grade) it leaves no visible residue on fruit or foliage, has a 0-day pre-harvest interval when used as directed, and is suitable for integration into IPM and resistance-management programs with most crop protection products.
Suggested dosage & application
Foliar Application: Apply 100–300 g/ha (working concentration of 5–15 ppm active 5-ALA, i.e., 10–30 g of 8% powder per 100 L water). Apply during early seedling development, pre-flowering, or 2–3 days prior to forecasted cold waves/low-light weather.
Fruit Coloration & Quality: Apply 200–400 g/ha (working concentration of 10–20 ppm active 5-ALA) at early fruit expansion and veraison stages, repeating 1–2 times at 10–14 day intervals.
Drip Irrigation / Fertigation: Apply 300–600 g/ha via irrigation systems to enhance root metabolic activity and nutrient uptake under saline soil conditions.
For Industrial Formulators: Add 0.5%–2% (5–20 kg/MT) as a functional synergistic active in premium water-soluble NPK fertilizers or amino acid liquids.

Frequently asked questions
01What is 5-ALA 8% powder in agriculture?
5-ALA 8% (5-Aminolevulinic acid) powder is a natural plant metabolic regulator. As the key precursor to chlorophyll synthesis, it enhances photosynthesis, boosts fruit quality, and protects crops from low-temperature stress.
02How does 5-ALA 8% powder help crops resist cold and frost?
5-ALA activates endogenous antioxidant defense mechanisms (SOD, POD, CAT enzymes), protecting plant cell membranes from ROS damage and maintaining cellular metabolic activity during freezing temperatures.
03What is the difference between 5-ALA 8% powder and pure 99% TC grade?
While 99% technical grade requires precise micro-dosing (15–30 g/ha) suitable for laboratory or synthesis work, the 8% soluble powder formulation (100–300 g/ha) is optimized with standardized carriers for easy measurement and direct agricultural tank-mixing.
04What is the MOQ, packaging and lead time for 5-ALA 8% powder?
5-ALA 8% powder is packed in standard export packaging 20kg drum with OEM customization available. MOQ is 40 kg; lead time is about 10 working days to Shanghai port, and every shipment includes a batch COA.
05How should 5-ALA 8% powder be stored?
Store sealed in a cool, dry place below 25 °C, away from direct sunlight and moisture. Shelf life is 24 months from the manufacturing date; keep the packaging tightly closed after use.
